Artist Statement

I remember quite clearly the day my mother noticed that her arthritic pinkie resembled my grandmother's hands, and how peculiar it was to see the generations represented this way. I am interested in the idea that as a metalsmith, certain tools become an extension of my own hands. As a result of being handcrafted, each object I create possesses an intrinsic and unique quality that cannot be duplicated.

The medium of jewelry is one that involves the wearer's personal space, and as an artist this concept must be understood and appreciated. The depth of the relationship that I have with an object, from its original sketches to its completed form, is incredibly meaningful to me. For this same object to carry a distinct, yet equally important meaning for its eventual wearer is a necessary and gratifying result of my work.

I have a desire to create and to be physically involved with the design process, and enjoy nothing more than the actual fabrication of a new piece. The ability to transform my inspirations into tangible objects with the use of my hands continues to be my driving force. The freedom of creating for the sole purpose of creating enables my work to remain fresh and original.
